Management is the act of getting people together to accomplish desired goals and objectives using available resources efficiently and effectively. Management comprises planning, organizing, staffing, leading or directing, and controlling an organization (a group of one or more people or entities) or effort for the purpose of accomplishing a goal. Resourcing encompasses the deployment and manipulation of human resources, financial resources, technological resources and natural resources.
Managers and supervisors perform a broad range of duties in virtually every economic sector. Specific duties for these managers vary by degree of responsibility and authority. Supervisory management is a form of management; however, less authority and autonomy are often granted to entry-level supervisors in this stage of a management career.
The purpose of supervisory and managerial programmes are to introduce new and/or prospective team leaders / supervisors and managers to the their leadership responsibilities and duties and focus on the motivation of workers.
As this level is important for career advancement, managerial programmes are mostly provided by accredited training providers according to national unit standards and qualifications.
