Major Focus Areas - Pillars

PILLAR ONE: EDUCATION

The main focus of this pillar is to be a strategic partner of the Western Cape Education Department which would contribute and strengthen the educational capacity and impact of education in the Cape Winelands, with special emphasis on the Robertson & Franschhoek areas.

Focus areas for Education include:

  • ECD (Early Childhood Development) – supporting ECD centres through the provision of various enrichment programmes
  • EDUCATOR SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT – together with the Winelands District Department of Education source and provide opportunities for principal and teacher development
  • SCHOOL GOVERNANCE  - facilitating training and skills development  of School Governing Bodies (SGB),  Senior Management Teams (SMT) and Representative Councils for Learners (RCL).
  • LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT - providing opportunities and programmes for leadership development of principals, educators and learners and conduct principal / senior staff meetings and conferences at the Skills Centre.   

PILLAR TWO: COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

The main focus of this pillar is to identify projects for community development that empower and uplift people by supporting their emotional wellbeing, as well as physical and intellectual development.
   
Focus areas for Community Development include:

  • PARENTING SKILLS - supporting parents and youth to involve parents in their children’s education and development and to build stronger family structures
  • COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT EVENTS & PROJECTS - facilitating constructive and creative events and projects that develop social skills, enhance self confidence, -esteem and encourage a sense of community involvement
  • YOUTH DEVELOPMENT - providing opportunities and programmes for youth development with a focus on reducing school drop out rates through constructive ways to use leisure time

PILLAR THREE:  SKILLS DELIVERY

The main focus of this pillar is to establish strategic partnerships with various role players and stakeholders in order to ensure the provision of skills delivery in line with industry scarce and critical skills needs

The following sectors are targeted when critical and scarce skills are being identified for skills programmes delivery:

  • AGRICULTURE -  includes Conservation, Equine, Fruit and wine industries
  • CONSTRUCTION / TRADE RELATED
  • TOURISM & HOSPITALITY
  • WHOLESALE & RETAIL

PILLAR FOUR: CONFERENCING & EVENTS

The main focus of this pillar is to ensure income generated activities in order to rent a world class facility to its full capacity.

PILLAR FIVE: ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT

The main focus of this pillar is to facilitate the implementation of an effective system for the creation of economic growth in the Robertson region which would empower new entrepreneurs with basic business knowledge and skills. This should offer a ladder of opportunity on the road of economic independence.

This area focus on mainly two programmes:

  • University of Stellenbosch Business School‘s Entrepreneurial Academy in the provision of their programme (NQF 5) as a pilot in the Robertson area.
  • Micro MBA which include a 3 months mentoring for NQF levels 1-3.
