Skills Centre

Skills development has been identified as one of the most important focuses for economic growth and poverty alleviation in South Africa.

Graham & Rhona Beck have donated an amount of money to build and launch a skills training centre on a farm near Robertson, registered as an Section 21 Company,  that has become the focal point of skills development in the Breede River Winelands Area. Its primarily focus is to address the training needs of people in rural communities. This Multi-sectoral Skills Centre officially opened its doors on 20 Nov 2008.

The centre acts mainly as a facilitating body, matching training supply with demand, and by providing a world-class training venue and facilities. 

The core business of the training centre can be described as follows:

• Providing quality infrastructure (human and physical) for an education and skills training centre for all economic sectors.
• The facilitation of training programmes (tasks include needs establishment, identification of service providers, planning, matching, and quality assurance of accredited service providers).
• Utilising funding opportunities and linking with national and provincial government funding programmes.
• Activities of the centre should lead to growth and development of human resources in the targeted geographic area.

The main areas in which services are delivered include:

1. The facilitation of training programmes by accredited service providers (matching the needs to suppliers) for all economic sectors.
2. Analysing and addressing training needs specific to the area
3. The renting out of facilities for (a) Conferencing (Auditorium) and (b) Training (3 Training rooms).
